- aaand urban challenge utah
this past saturday kyle and i competed in urban challenge utah. it was put on by the make a wish foundation as a fundraiser and was a sort of a mini-amazing race around salt lake city. we were very excited about it, but unfortunately we weren't very well prepared. the description on the website made it seem that anyone would be able to do it and it wouldn't be very physically challenging and that you could walk, bike, or use public transit.
the race started at 10am and we had 5 hours (until 3pm) to complete 10 challenges, and since we didn't have bikes, we decided to walk. yeeeaaaah we spent an average of 45 minutes walking to each challenge which meant that by 2:30 we had only completed 7/10, we spent way to much time wandering around salt lake in the hot sun trying to figure out where the different locations were. which brings me to our biggest disadvantage: not having a smart phone. at the end of the day two of the officials informed us that we were the only team that hadn't had a smart phone. other teams were able to google locations, directions, and answers to some of the puzzles and questions, whereas me and kyle had to call friends to look stuff up for us, walk into businesses and ask for directions and ask other contestants for help which slowed us down a ton.
by the 3pm deadline we were only able to complete 8/10 challenges and my legs and feet were totally destroyed. but overall it was pretty fun, the challenges included movie trivia, a planet puzzle, utah jazz trivia (which we totally rocked), a bootcamp challenge, playing with firehoses, dressing up in hockey gear, downing cafe rio salsa, and a couple others that we weren't able to get to. it was a good experience, and if i ever do anything like it again i will definitely be better prepared. but i sure loved spending time with my teammate!
You've been having so much fun!! After all of your hard work in school, it's about time to get to rest!
ReplyDeletep.s. I've sent you a message on facebook, too, regarding your comment about babysitting :)
